Zane Caplansky’s much-loved (and occasionally groused-about) College Street deli has made it to three years, a not insignificant achievement in the restaurant biz. In a long blog post, Caplansky details his smoked meat-led odyssey from being “friendless, penniless and lost” six years ago to now running a successful deli and truck. He also thanks many of the people who’ve helped him on the way, like his “first real friend,” Charlotte Holmes, who was with him on that fateful night at the Pour House on Dupont when he decided to open his own place, and his manager, Tenzin Nordhen. To celebrate, he’s offering free latkes for all today. To which we can only say, “L’chaim!” [Caplansky’s]
