Canadians are a surprisingly caffeinated people, according to a new study

Maybe it’s the Timmy’s count per block, or perhaps the brisk northern clime that makes everyone keen to sip something hot. Regardless of the reason, Canadians rank pretty high on the list of the world’s top coffee consumers. In fact, according to a new study discussed in The Atlantic, people living in Canada drink more coffee per capita (at 1.009 cups per day) than anyone else this side of the Atlantic—even revved-up Americans (0.931 per day), and residents of the world’s top bean-producing countries like Brazil (0.484 per day), Colombia (0.479), and Guatemala (0.313). Canada was only beaten out by Europeans and particularly Scandinavians, who apparently guzzle gallons of the stuff. Mainland China and Nigeria ranked last, while The Netherlands bagged top spot by downing a whopping 2.414 cups of coffee per day—which could be good news or bad news for jittery Hollanders, depending on what you read.
