All good things come to an end, and while we’re not sure how good Brant House was, the seemingly eternal nightclub and quasi-restaurant is no more. Taking its place is The Citizen, a new restaurant and bar with chef Amanda Walti, previously chef de cuisine at Origin’s King Street location. We’re told that the space is getting a thorough rebuild. The design will be handled by Ian Rydberg, the aesthetic mastermind behind La Carnita, Home of the Brave and other happening spots around town. The look will be inspired by ’40s and ’50s New York City, but the cuisine will be—wait for it—rustic Canadian comfort food. According to the website for Uniq Lifestyle, the entertainment group that owned Brant House, The Citizen is gunning for a spring 2014 opening.
