American celebrity chef Bobby Flay is bringing his eponymous chain to Toronto to compete with the stacked, smashed, classic and masala-spiced offerings vying for attention in the city’s already crowded burger scene.

Founded in 2021, Bobby’s Burgers is Flay’s post-Covid revamp of his Bobby’s Burger Palace chain. Currently operating nine locations stateside, Bobby’s Burgers recently revealed plans to open 65 Canadian stores—and the restaurant’s flagship location will be here in Toronto.

Recognized for his bold approach to American cuisine, Flay first rose to fame as chef-owner of Mesa Grill and Bolo. An Iron Chef, Flay has also appeared on several Food Network shows and is the author of more than a dozen cookbooks. Flay is a self-proclaimed burger fanatic and an ardent fan of the pub-style burger sold at JG Melon in his hometown of New York.

At Bobby’s Burgers, Flay eschews trendy smash patties, instead doling out chonky, creatively topped Certified Angus Beef burgers alongside a menu of classic sides, fried chicken sandwiches and super-thick shakes.

But Flay fans looking to get their hands on one of his burgers will need to remain patient, as an opening date has yet to be announced. Currently, the brand’s team is said to be scouting the city in search of the ideal spot for its first Canadian location.
