Food Truck Eats to throw the first-ever AwesTRUCK awards

Sure, food trucks in Toronto keep running into bureaucratic snags, but it’s pretty clear that a fair swath of the city has gone gaga over the concept of curbside noshing. To honour the constantly growing roster of vehicles in Southern Ontario, Food Truck Eats has organized its first-ever awards show. Dubbed AwesTRUCK, the ceremony will take place at the Evergreen Brick Works’ Holcim Gallery, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on September 9 (it’s $15 for a general admission ticket and $60 for VIP passes), and will see the trucks competing in six categories.Starting today, street foodies can vote online for the People’s Choice award, and the top eight trucks (out of 14) will dish it out at the Brick Works the day of the awards. Aside from the People’s Choice, honours will be doled out for Best New Food Truck, Best Concept, Best Menu Item, Road Warrior and Best Graphics. It’s great to see the vendors getting some recognition for their eats—now, if only the city could ease up a bit on the regulations. [Food Truck Eats]
