A peek at the menu at Claudio Aprile’s new restaurant, which is now open for business
The origin of Origin is upon us. The much-anticipated restaurant from the talented and mercurial food master Claudio Aprile opened this week with little more fuss than the 12 exclamation points announcing the event on its Web site. The King East restaurant is operating without a liquor licence (for now) and has yet to put its menu on its site, but Spotlight City has tweeted an image of the menu from the front window. Highlights after the jump.
Written in the same format as the one at Colborne Lane, the menu has the following items that piqued our curiosity: a mozzarella bar, complete with burrata ($15); a raw bar serving beef in addition to seafood; grilled rock hen with dates and olives ($15); and, for dessert, a Guinness soft-serve float ($10) and dulce de leche with espresso ice, caramel crunch and sea salt ($8).
However, the prices are the real story; they are remarkably reasonable. The two most expensive mains are $19 and $29, and no app crosses the $10 Rubicon. It seems that Aprile is fulfilling his vision of an accessible restaurant with solid, simple cooking.
