Life of Pi author Yann Martel received a $3-million advance for his latest novel, Beatrice and Virgil. The Holocaust-themed novel, which hit shelves yesterday, has been getting good reviews. The Globe says that it’s likely the deal is the most ever paid for a Canadian novel, which kind of explains why Margaret Atwood is now appearing in movies. To celebrate his escape from life as a poor author, the Saskatoon writer bought a Honda Accord and a house in his hometown.
