Wicked re-returns to Toronto this fall

Something Wicked this way comes. Again. After some speculation, the Mirvish machine has announced that it’s bringing back Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holtzman’s mega-musical this fall, for the third time since 2005. Don’t get us wrong. There’s much to love about this mash note to Oz’s witchy women pre-Dorothy: slave labour, animal experimentation, body politics—heady stuff. It’s just that it only serves as a reminder that we missed out on the original Broadway run starring the ne plus ultra trio of Idina Menzel (Elphaba), Kristin Chenoweth (Galinda) and Joel Grey (the Wizard). At least this will save us from watching the Rachel/Kurt anything-you-can-sing-I-can-sing-better rendition of “Defying Gravity” from Glee for the 100th time. Or not.
