Watch the real Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman last night

After admitting that his spaced-out, dishevelled persona in I’m Still Here was a hoax, Joaquin Phoenix returned to David Letterman’s Late Show last night, thanking the host for having him as a guest in 2009. The now infamous interview, in which Phoenix appeared to be in a near catatonic state, launched a year and a half’s worth of real vs. fake debate.

Phoenix said last night that Letterman was in no way in on the joke, though it’s rumoured that the show’s staff were told of the ruse. Still no word whether the Phoenix impersonator said to be crashing TIFF red carpets was also part of the joke, though we can already assume the answer to that. See highlights from last night’s interview in the clip above.
