Your star-spotting guide for Friday, September 11

As TIFF ramps up, so do the number of celebs at parties all over the city—and this year’s festival is drawing some serious star power to our streets. Here are your best bets for bumping elbows with A-listers today.

If you’re looking to spot a megawatt celeb during TIFF, Soho House is always a good place to start—their parties often draw the biggest names, though you can’t get in without an invite. Tonight, the Sicario premiere pre-party will bring stars Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro and director Denis Villeneuve. If you’re not on the list, try the bar at the Ritz-Carlton nearby, where Brolin has been spotted hanging out during previous festivals.

The Queen might not be in attendance for this year’s fest, but we do have the next best thing in the form of Helen Mirren. Tonight’s invite-only premiere party for her drone-warfare thriller Eye in the Sky will likely bring her and her co-stars Aaron Paul and Alan Rickman to Patria on King West.

Tonight’s Martian premiere afterparty at Roy Thompson Hall should draw some serious stars: the film’s cast includes Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Shannon and Kate Mara, all of whom are expected to show up.

If you’re more interested in what goes on behind the scenes than onscreen, try camping out by the ROM for a glimpse at the Producers’ Ball, an annual gala that celebrates producers and directors from across the film industry and tends to draw an interesting mix of stars. (Last year’s attendees included Viggo Mortensen, John Cusack, Caitlin Cronenberg and Kardinal Offishall, and Jessica Chastain is rumoured to be coming this year.)

Finally, if you’re looking to party without trying to fake your way past a security detail, Michael Moore is hosting a party at El Caballito to celebrate the premiere of his movie Where to Invade Next. The party’s today at 4 p.m., and according to Moore, the first 100 people in line will get free entry, food and booze.
