The funny man and former husband of ’90s comedy queen Roseanne Barr assured us he can make Shep Gordon Day happen: according to Tom Arnold, he would bring it up with Mayor Rob Ford later that night (the two supposedly had a date to party—which we’re pretty sure isn’t anywhere close to true). With or without an official day in his honour, Gordon, who’s responsible for launching the careers of Alice Cooper, Blondie, Anne Murray, Raquel Welch and many more, was the man of the hour at the red carpet matinee screening at Roy Thomson Hall of Canadian comedy icon Mike Myers’s directorial debut Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon.

What exactly is a supermensch? Said shock rock king and a scratch golfer Cooper (who has already played two rounds in Toronto on this trip!): “Forty-three years and we still don’t have a contract together. When everybody thought we were the biggest joke in the world, and we couldn’t get a record contract, Shep stayed on until it all happened.” From Arnold: “It’s a guy who never gets too frazzled, no problem if you call him in the middle of the night and you say, ‘I got an issue—there’s a body in my trunk,’ and he’s like, ‘Let’s not talk on the phone anymore, but I’ll talk care of it.’ That’s a supermensch for ya.”
