TIFF Red Carpet: Idris Elba looks cool and casual at the premiere of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom

Despite the drizzly weather and some technical glitches, yesterday’s premiere of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, the Nelson Mandela biopic from director Jason Chadwick, was a glamorous affair. Luthor actor Idris Elba (perhaps best known as Stringer Bell on The Wire), who plays Mandela, looked casual but cool in a skinny tie and black leather sneakers, and Skyfall’s Naomie Harris, who plays Mandela’s wife Winnie, dazzled in a tea-length Marchesa gown with tulle overlay and gem-encrusted Christian Louboutin pumps. Although reviews have yet to trickle in, the film has already sparked serious Oscar buzz and received an even more important accolade: the endorsement of Nelson Mandela himself.
