The Mirvishes might have been in the business for a long time. But they are no different than any producer in any big city in North America with a theatre subscription business. Drabinsky is a crook. But he did put Toronto on an international scale for a brief moment, making us actually creative and innovative when it came to theatre. Too bad he was too egomaniacal and greedy for his own good. If only his creative ability could be cultivated and nothing else. And Aubrey Dan at least tries to do more than simply bring in shows (he produced Memphis for which he won a Tony). The Mirvishes try to stamp out competition by snapping up all theatres downtown. Kudos to Dancap for being creative. I’m not celebrating a Mirvish rename.
