Sum 41 lead singer Deryck Whibley is in the hospital after being attacked by three unknown men in a bar in Japan yesterday. The band tweeted last night that local police are investigating. Today, this notice was posted on their blog:

It is unfortunate to say, but Deryck Whibley is still in the hospital. He was attacked late last night in Japan. We are waiting for results and we are hoping for the best. Thanks for your support.

The band is in the country to play the Summer Sonic Music Festival in Osaka this weekend, but there’s no word on whether they’ll cancel the gig or on how Whibley is doing. We wish him a speedy recovery. The good news: Sum 41’s still booking international shows.
