Political intrigue, nukes and Navy Seals gone rogue: television has never been more cinematic. Andre Braugher and Scott Speedman star in Last Resort, the latest venture from Shawn Ryan (of The Shield). Braugher plays the gruff captain of a nuclear submarine who is ordered to strike Pakistan by an obviously questionable robot voice. He and his family-man executive officer (Speedman) refuse (duh), and their sub is attacked by their own government. They then set up shop on an island, Lost-style, and become the world’s newest and smallest nuclear-armed nation. Much clashing with island natives and Botoxed government officials, righteous shouting of nonsensical military acronyms and teary phone calls to hot blonde wives are expected to follow. Last Resort premieres this fall on ABC, Thursdays at 8 p.m.
