Anyone itching for a taste of fame should consider brushing up on their knife skills. Next month, a team of Masterchef Canada scouts will be holding an open casting call for potential contestants for the show’s second season.

The first season, which aired earlier this year, never quite matched the drama of its American counterpart, probably because none of the judges could compete with U.S. host Gordon Ramsay’s uniquely creepy blend of charisma and volatility. Canadians nonetheless found something to love about the spin-off, which ended up being the top-rated Canadian series for 2013-14. Toronto-area home cooks hoping to be a part of season two can troop down to the Intercontinental Hotel on July 12 or 13 with one fully prepared dish, which will be sampled by a team of “professional tasters.” More details about the audition process can be found here.

July 12-13. Free. Intercontinental Hotel, 225 Front St. W., ctv.ca
