We think it’s safe to say Julian Schnabel likes this town. The acclaimed director has an art exhibit featuring a collection of his Polaroids and films opening this Saturday at the AGO; a much-hyped film, Miral, premiering at TIFF (it stars Slumdog Millionaire’s Freida Pinto); and this Thursday joins TIFF Cinematheque at Jackman Hall for a Latin film compare-and-contrast party. Schnabel will first present Hector Babenco’s gritty 1981 São Paulo drama Pixote, followed by his own film Before Night Falls, about Cuban poet and novelist Reinaldo Arenas. Each presentation will be accompanied by a discussion with Schnabel.

Tickets $13–$18.75, available on the TIFF Web site.
