Current Obsession: what the chameleonic Colm Feore is loving right now

Feore, who’s known for embodying Shakespearean heroes and blockbuster baddies with equal relish, stars in two of the year’s biggest movies: this month’s Tom Clancy reboot, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in May. Next month, he returns to his creative mother ship, the Stratford Festival, to begin rehearsals for next summer’s production of King Lear. We asked Feore about his cultural consumption off the set.

Anthony Bourdain

ANTHONY BOURDAIN’S
Parts Unknown

“When I’m on the road, I take my iPad and watch Bourdain’s travel show. It brings me comfort when I’m eating alone in a foreign hotel room. I think, ‘Wouldn’t it be nice to be dining in Sicily with Anthony right now?’”

Homage to Catalinia

GEORGE ORWELL’S
Homage to Catalinia

“On a recent trip to Barcelona, I was drinking a glass of wine and reading Homage to Catalonia when I realized I was in Orwell Square. The book is about people being cold, hungry and miserable during the Spanish Civil War.”

Shoah

CLAUDE LANZMANN’S
Shoah

“I’m plowing my way through the nine-hour Holocaust documentary. As an actor, I’m always trying to understand how people think and behave. It’s useful to draw in those threads from history.”

Hunter Hunter

AMELIA CURRAN’S
Hunter Hunter

“Her music is so beautiful it makes me sigh in admiration. When I met her last year at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, I was starstruck. I was like, ‘You’re Amelia Curran! My daughter and I sing “The Mistress” in the car!’ She was kind of weirded out.”
