David Cronenberg may direct the Hunger Games sequel

Lionsgate and Hunger Games director Gary Ross have parted ways, so the studio is on the hunt for a new director to complete the trilogy, and David Cronenberg and Alfonso Cuarón are among the names to make the shortlist. The L.A. Times reports that the studio wants the sequel Catching Fire to be in production by August, which is why they’re seeking someone with a history of working with large casts and tight timelines. Given his highly stylized, exceedingly violent summer blockbuster Cosmopolis, it wouldn’t surprise us if Cronenberg gets this one.
