Sarah Polley is set to start filming Take This Waltz, a new romantic comedy (or dramatic romance, depending on who you ask), in Toronto this July. And like in her last writing-directing effort, 2006’s Away From Her, there will be plenty of CanCon. Polley’s original script is based on a 1988 Leonard Cohen song of the same name. Vancouver’s Seth Rogen has signed on, and the film’s producers are in talks with Hamilton-born actor

Luke Kirby.

Michelle Williams will also star in movie (its budget currently hovers around $9 or $10 million), which, like so many of Polley’s efforts, is already attracting praise. The script made the 2009 Black List, an inventory of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays (in 2005, Lars and the Real Girl and Juno were on the list). Sarah Silverman is being considered for a part as well, but may we suggest Catherine O’Hara? We hear she’s looking to live down her painful stand-up bit at the Olympics closing ceremonies.
