Apparently, TTC riders aren’t scared off public transit by things that haven’t happened yet

The TTC recently broke its record for single-day ridership, with 1.71 million rides on September 15, and ridership is expected to surpass its estimated 487 million rides this year.  Nonetheless, the city is set to usher in lowered standards for crowding and wait times in 2012—when ridership will likely pass the 500-million mark—and the Toronto Star makes a point of noting that the prospect of an unsettling tomorrow doesn’t seem to be deterring riders today. We’re unsure why the promise of something happening in 2012 would deter riders now, but the point is the same: it really is a bad time to be stretching the TTC so thinly.
