TTC drivers are suffering from the dreaded 2.5-hour workday

The TTC voted to introduce random drug testing for staff in response to an apparently persistent substance abuse problem. Despite the juicy substance abuse issue, the coverage of the decision is fairly predictable. Councillor Joe Mihevc believes the proposal violates the human rights of TTC staff, while union boss Bob Kinnear thinks less invasive tests, including optical scanners, would be preferable to saliva swabs. But here’s the real gem (which is either a media relations fumble or a pretty hilarious typo): in arguing that sleep deprivation is a serious problem for TTC staff, Kinnear said, “We have employees working 12, 13, 14 hours a week.” Yes, 14 hours a week.
