The Star adds a little service journalism to the saga of injured Toronto animals

When police were unable to find a veterinarian to care for an injured deer earlier this month, they were forced to “dispatch” (read: shoot and kill) the animal. So today, a Toronto Star reporter profiled the Toronto Wildlife Centre, a charity that helps animals in distress. If the image of a killed doe isn’t sad enough, there’s also talk of people who deliberately flush baby ducks down storm drains (a suggestion for the Star’s next investigation: who are these people?). But there’s also plenty of useful information: discarded McFlurry cups are basically tantamount to traps for skunks, swans “can cause incredible damage with their wings” and groundhogs are mean.
