Toronto Football Club apologizes for sucking at ticket sales, soccer

It’s a rare moment—especially in Toronto—when a multibillion-dollar sporting organization performs so badly that it has to apologize to its fans. But such was the case for Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment at the close of yet another dismal Toronto Football Club season. So disappointing was the team’s performance on the pitch and so arrogant was the management’s handling of season ticket sales that MLSE felt compelled to publish a grovelling open letter of apology to the TFC’s disgruntled fans.

In a nutshell, the letter apologizes for a host of failures, including not being good at soccer, forcing season ticket holders to purchase admission to playoff games in which the TFC will not play, and generally failing to earn the dollars they’ve expected Torontonians to shell out. MLSE also announced four town hall meetings at which enraged soccer fans can vent their frustrations to management. (Of course, none of this has kept them from raising ticket prices for next season.)

Now, if only those other MLSE teams, the Leafs and Raptors, would sit down for a chat.
