Jordi Savall Having reignited interest in the viola da gamba as a performance instrument best suited to the Renaissance and Baroque repertoires, the much-recorded Savall continues to focus on early music, with occasional forays into the classical period. Stepping outside his comfort zone, Savall has chosen a program for this concert that includes improvisations on traditional Mexican music. Find out more »

New Creations Festival This annual celebration of new music reliably packs the hall with the young and adventurous looking for a post-Stravinsky kick. Curated this year by the Hungarian composer Peter Eötvös, the series features two works by Claude Vivier, the Canadian composer who was murdered in Paris by a male prostitute, and sees the feisty Kronos Quartet tackle a world premiere by New Brunswick composer Derek Charke.
