CARS Honda Indy Toronto Exhibition Place turns into motorsport heaven this weekend with IndyCar races, BMX stunt shows and poutine-eating time trials. Oakville’s James Hinchcliffe is the fan favourite in the big race, but he’ll have to best defending champion Ryan Hunter-Reay to take the title. July 12-14. $60 for one day; $80 for two days. THEATRE Slap Shot Live! Second City closes out its stage adaptation of the hockey comedy classic this weekend with a final nostalgia inducing set of performances. Standout reviews have been rolling in for the stick-smashing, head-bashing production. The Globe called it “the funniest game you can name.” July 12-14. $29-34. FILM Christie Pits Film Festival The Sunday series screens free flicks at Christie Pits Park. The current theme is bands and musicians, and this week’s selection is Gimme Shelter, which chronicles the last weeks of the Rolling Stones’ tour that culminated in the infamous Altamont Free Concert in 1969. FOOD Festival of India (FREE!) The 41th annual celebration of Indian culture and spirituality kicks off with a huge parade on Yonge Street followed by two days of eating, dancing and yoga on Centre Island.
