Toronto has another new car app—and this one summons regular-fare taxis
Toronto has yet another new smart phone app to help stranded urbanites find a ride. Tap’n Ride, the brainchild of Rosedale Livery’s current president, Craig McCutcheon, allows users to order either a limo or a regular-fare city taxi from their phone or web browser. (Since apps like Winston and Uber already allow those with significant expendable funds to order up luxury vehicles, we’re betting that Tap’n Ride’s taxi function will get the most play.) The app is free, and unlike Beck Taxi’s iPhone app, it’s peer-to-peer, meaning it eliminates the need for a call centre and dispatch. Users confirm their pick-up address directly with the driver by text and keep tabs on where the car is while they’re waiting (approximately 10 minutes). At the end of the ride, it’s charged to the on-file credit card registered during the initial sign-up. [Tap’n Ride]
An amazing service. I love not having to carry extra cab fare on me& no waiting on the phone!
kool aplication ! cost and time saving !
No call centre and dispatch…meaning no interaction with customers or review of the orders on behalf of the brand? Call centres and dispatch service help to control wait times and levels of service while the driver is coming to get you. Are they properly licensed like taxi companies are? Peer-to-peer, to peer, to peer if the order isn’t attractive. Since texting is not allowed while driving, how long does the driver communicate back and forth (not required with the Beck Taxi app) before he moves to come and get you within the “approximately 10 minute service”. Or are they driving and texting? Sounds safe.
I’ve tried endless times to get a pickup and there never seems to be cars on the road. The app is available in the app store, but if you can never get a pickup, what’s the point?
Try the Beck Taxi app! You’ll get service immediately and no need to text back and forth. http://www.becktaxiapp.com for service in minutes!
The taxicab industry in Toronto is about to change. But, this change will not come from an incumbent taxi company or three person tech outfit. Change will come at the driver level – when THEY select the technology solution that treats them fairly and provides them with the best opportunity to maximize their revenue. The existing model in most large cities like Toronto have witnessed brokerages (call centres) strip away driver earnings at every turn. These brokerages fill their pockets with ‘shift fees’ , ‘radio fees’, ‘credit card terminal and transaction fees’ and ‘corporate account fees’. Technology will not only eliminate this inefficient, exploitive and archaic model – it will also enhance the customer experience by shrinking pick up times to 2 to 3 minutes and providing seamless, no fee above the meter payment options.
Anouther new APP is on its way…look for QwikCab App by new startup Cabtricity coming this summer. The company is offering the app free, to Independent Drivers in Toronto who join their membership. For a monthly fee of $25.00 Memebers receive exclusive rights to use the mobile app, discount Merchant services, Group Insurance benefits, and more, which should save drivers hundreds of dollars a month. Independent drivers no longer have to depend on pricey dispatch services, they have a choice.
I have used all of these apps, they seem friendly priced and some have nicer cabs then others. But here you ask them to go to out of town or pearson airport and flat rate goes sky high. i tried these fellas http://www.airportlimotaxis.ca found to be at the right place with the right fare charged!
