Taiwanese animators imagine Rob Ford’s death in a creepy amount of detail

Someone at Next Media Animation has an eye for detail and an extremely dark imagination. Previous YouTube videos from the Taiwanese animation factory have made lighthearted fun of Rob Ford‘s various crack-related predicaments, but this latest one takes a decidedly more vérité approach. It imagines, in disturbing detail, Ford’s divorce and subsequent crack-related death following a 2014 election loss. Needless to say, this is not for kids. Even kind-hearted adults might want to spare themselves the sight of a CGI mayor keeling over after a hit of CGI crack.

The scenario alone isn’t what makes the video so jaw-droppingly bizarre, though; it’s all the creepily accurate details. There’s authentic-looking “Ford Nation” campaign literature, a fairly accurate rendering of Rob Ford’s house, his wife Renanta’s name is on the fake divorce settlement, and the animators even managed to approximate her face. Note, too, the other story on the cover of the Star-like newspaper at 1:48: “Lawyers set stage in McCallion inquiry.” The video isn’t funny, but the craftsmanship and research, combined with the total obliviousness to any notions of taste, is breathtaking. Please don’t end up this way, Rob Ford. It gets better.
