Shocker: Rob Ford exaggerates a cost figure

Rob Ford, the guy who didn’t actually save Toronto taxpayers a billion dollars, isn’t known for being especially careful with numbers, especially when not being careful with numbers is in his interest. That being said, it’s not clear exactly what he had to gain by greatly exaggerating the cost of his stay in rehab.

The Post reports that the “one hundred grand” figure Ford mentioned during his interview with the Sun’s Joe Warmington was almost certainly many times more than he—or anyone, really—is actually paying for treatment. The Post says that even Passages Malibu, where Mel Gibson has stayed, charges only $88,500 (only!), and most Canadian treatment centres are in the $10,000-to-$20,000 range. Whatever the amount, it’s money well spent.
