They grow up so fast: as TIFF approaches, Sarah Polley reveals she is pregnant

The lovely Sarah Polley is undoubtedly an up-and-coming director (as evidenced by this year’s gala presentation of her second feature film, Take This Waltz, at TIFF), but we will always remember the 32-year-old Canadian as Sara Stanley, the tempestuous yet lovable young heiress she portrayed on CBC’s Road to Avonlea as a child. Perhaps this is why we’re so elated at the news that Polley is three-and-a-half months pregnant with the child of partner David Sandomierski, who she married two weeks ago just north of Toronto.

Sandomierski is a law graduate currently pursuing a Ph.D. and has clerked with Supreme Court of Canada Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin. Polley may not be lunching with any Canadian equivalent of Sandra Day O’Connor, but she has starred in many films, including The Sweet Hereafter and David Cronenberg’s eXistenZ, as well as Go (directed by Doug Liman) and Bruce McDonald’s Trigger. Take This Waltz is Polley’s second feature—she earned a Genie Award for best direction and an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay for Away From Her in 2006. And who knows, perhaps we’ll see this new addition to Polley’s family following in its mother’s footsteps soon—that is, if someone would just write a modern version of Road to Avonlea already (and no, Degrassi does not count).
