“On my perfect day, I’ll meet a friend for breakfast at Mitzi’s Café (100 Sorauren Ave., 416-588-1234). It’s incredibly comfortable and feels like you’re walking into someone’s house. I order the challah French toast. Then I indulge my vintage cravings at the strip of antique stores between Sorauren and Roncy. Hideaway Antiques (1605 Queen St. W., 416-539-0833) has the best selection of Victorian display cases. Across the street, 1698 Queen Antiques (1698 Queen St. W., 416-535-0399) has objets d’art, roulette game wheels, and library card catalogues. Stella Luna (1627 Queen St. W., 416-536-7300) is my favourite vintage clothing store in the neighbourhood. It’s overflowing with great dresses and cotton blouses from the ’60s and ’70s. Next, I’ll head to the Thin Blue Line (93 Roncesvalles Ave., 416-840-6966) for their selection of artisanal cheeses, and to Sweetpea’s (163 Roncesvalles Ave., 416-537-3700) to buy a big bunch of orange and fuchsia dahlias for my kitchen. Mabel’s (323 Roncesvalles Ave., 416-534-2333) bakes artisan breads in-house—I get the baguettes. Then I get my loose-leaf teas at the Herbal Clinic and Dispensary (409 Roncesvalles Ave., 416-537-5303). The old-fashioned amber medicine bottles on the shelves make it look like a mystical apothecary.”
