Rob Ford revives his war on all forms of transportation except cars
The mayor was in classic form on Thursday, as he told reporters that he still intends to make good on his age-old promise to rid Toronto of streetcars. “We cannot be purchasing new streetcars and I guarantee you when I’m reelected we’re not buying new streetcars,” Ford said, according to the Sun. (This despite the fact that the city has already committed hundreds of millions of dollars to a fleet of new streetcars and associated track improvements.) Today, in an op-ed published in the Sun, Ford doubled down, calling for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT to be buried along its entire length—a battle he lost in 2012. So, if reelected, Rob Ford promises to deliver on all the promises he has already proven himself incapable of fulfilling. That’s quite a rhetorical pretzel, but, if recent polls are accurate, his base will eat it up.
Oxygen thief!
His ‘base’ (of nimrods) may eat that up, but fortunately enough Ford’s empty rhetoric does not make policy, nor becomes action. He keeps stating the reasons his re-election bid will fail. Big time.
Rob Ford will not be happy until ALL arterial roads become expressways. No bicycles allowed. No streetcars allowed. No pedestrians allowed. Just single-occupant motor vehicles would be ideal for him.
More people use transit than drive cars in GTA on any given day. This is just more cheap political grandstanding. He needs to run a bad third and then he can go back to driving a truck for Deco and DoFo can get back to the other Etobicoke family business, selling drugs.
Absolutely …. Ford doesn’t like public transit because it gets in the way of his car. That’s it. Period. In his world, everybody drives, including 3 year olds, 99 year olds and people’s pets … He would be perfect for Niagara because it seems our political elite doesn’t believe in public transit either. I live in GM Town with an Attitude, where anybody that doesn’t drive doesn’t work either. One has to live here to believe it (Niagara.
Have any of these people ever `worked`for Deco, other than draw money from it? People who are this wealthy should not be in a position to dictate public policy.
Yes, let’s take transportation advice from a man who needlessly took a private plane to and from Chicago and has yet to explain WHY or why he was denied entrance to the States… and while I’m on it… Why has he had BOTH his ankles wrapped and what does that have to do with ONE little toe being stubbed?????? Please, would someone explain, as we know, neither Rob or Doug will every tell the truth…. (and yes, I know the wrapping & toe were a different article but no one’s offered an explanation so I’m trying here….)
Sadly, they believe they are representatives of ‘ordinary people’ yet have never experienced anything but luxury… even in the story about entering the debate the other day and insisting on breaking the rules (how many allowed in) the Fords demonstrate that they don’t play by the same rules and that goes for the laws too… judging by his past actions.
Let’s hope so…
Rob, we can guarantee you that you won’t be re-elected.
He lost long ago, and now is just trolling.
The poll in ward 2 that gives Mike a commanding lead proves that Ford is still a viable force in this election.
Nice self like Dave.
You’re such a tragic sad character in so many ways. You’re the dumb base the paragraph refers to.
