A wily Rob Ford finds the upside of being sued
Asked yesterday about Clayton Ruby’s push to have him thrown out of office, Rob Ford demonstrated some shrewd thinking, refusing to talk about the case itself but taking the opportunity to plug his football foundation. “All I know is my foundation has helped thousands of kids get an education, get ’em off the streets, and I’m going to continue doing what I’m doing,” Ford told the Toronto Sun. Here’s a crazy thought: this conflict-of-interest brouhaha, which all started with Ford refusing to repay donations from lobbyists, could end up just helping him do a little public fundraising. Rob Ford’s campaign site claimed total donations of $100,000. The integrity commissioner could only find record of $40,000.
So if “thousands” (let’s say 2,000 ) of kids have been helped to get off the street and to get an education that means Rob has worked miracles with an average of only $20 to $50 each.
Either a miracle worker, or a liar.
Get off Rob’s back. At least he’s trying to DO SOMETHING. I’m so sick of committee’s & panels & environmental reports, etc. that drag on for YEARS and NOTHING GETS DONE!
For cying out loud, it’s taken 77 YEARS TO BUILD A 240 meter TUNNEL TO THE TORONTO ISLAND AIRPORT! 77 YEARS!
Toronto has lots MILLIONS due to trade convetions choosing other cities over Toronto.
And if the left councillors weren’t so opposed to private funding, Toronto would have built at least 20 subway stations by now. During the 1980 & 1990’s, Ontario was flush with high corporate profits. Have a private corporation fund 50% of the cost of building a subway station in exchange for naming rights with a 25 year lease. When you’re standing in Scarborough in a blizzard, no one cares if a station is called CIBC, BMO, Rogers, Telos, CTV, Prudential, Sunlife,
Cara Foods or whatever. JUST BUILD THE SUBWAYS, and they will come. But no, the left can’t STAND to have any advertising anywhere. Have they ever been to Toyko?
Government can’t fund everything – you need to get the private corporations involved.
