The public still doesn’t know precisely where Rob Ford is spending his leave of absence, and now the Globe has ruled out the only known possibility. The paper is reporting that, despite appearances, Ford didn’t actually go to Chicago. It seems as though he took a private plane there, but, for whatever reason, never formally entered the United States.

The Globe confirmed all this with Roy Norton, the consul general of Canada in Chicago, who said that Ford “voluntarily” decided not to apply for admission to the U.S., and that he “was not denied entry, per se.”

It’s not known whether Ford’s admitted drug use and alleged gang associations would have been grounds for border security to turn him back, but criminality is something border agents take into consideration. Ford hasn’t been charged with any crimes connected to his crack scandal, though, and he was able to travel to the U.S. in March for his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The mayor’s lawyer has said only that his client has checked into a facility, somewhere. And so, the great Ford hunt continues.
