The mystery of Rob Ford’s whereabouts deepens

The public still doesn’t know precisely where Rob Ford is spending his leave of absence, and now the Globe has ruled out the only known possibility. The paper is reporting that, despite appearances, Ford didn’t actually go to Chicago. It seems as though he took a private plane there, but, for whatever reason, never formally entered the United States.
The Globe confirmed all this with Roy Norton, the consul general of Canada in Chicago, who said that Ford “voluntarily” decided not to apply for admission to the U.S., and that he “was not denied entry, per se.”
It’s not known whether Ford’s admitted drug use and alleged gang associations would have been grounds for border security to turn him back, but criminality is something border agents take into consideration. Ford hasn’t been charged with any crimes connected to his crack scandal, though, and he was able to travel to the U.S. in March for his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
The mayor’s lawyer has said only that his client has checked into a facility, somewhere. And so, the great Ford hunt continues.
This guy can’t even go into rehab like a normal person. I just hope that the treatment centre–wherever it may be–also takes a crack (pun intented) at his media addiction. RoFo can’t go two days without getting into the news one way or another. And he is well known for calling up talk radio hosts or his favourite newspaper guys to have his say. He craves the attention and I am sure that is related to his other addictions.
Since this is Rob Ford we are talking about, this story is now in the international press. The Guardian has reported on the Globe story in detail but the Guardian article also includes background info for their readers about how Canada give the US access to CPIC.
“the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has a memorandum of cooperation with the US FBI that grants the US intelligence agency, and its border officials, access to the Canadian Police Information Centre (Cpic), a database that contains information related to criminal activity including warrants for arrests, certain mental health records and missing persons reports.
Does this mean that RoFo is being treated like a criminal by the Yanks?
Good luck Rob! I’ve been there. Get well. The other mayoral candidates are no good. We need you to get the right stuff done – and you delivered in the last 4 years.
