Rob Ford literally calls himself a king
Rob Ford made his first post-rehab debate appearance on Tuesday night at an event hosted by the Canadian Tamil Congress, and he didn’t disappoint. Under withering criticism from the other four major mayoral candidates, the mayor at one point referred to himself, literally, as a king. After Olivia Chow had finished responding to a question about funding for social housing (she pointed out, correctly, that today’s massive funding shortfalls are in many ways a direct consequence of provincial budget cuts implemented by the Mike Harris government in the nineties), Ford responded with equal parts arrogance, indignation and third-person sentence structure. “Well folks, talk to the people at Toronto Community Housing, and they will tell you that Rob Ford visits them every single week,” he said, referring to his practice of touring TCHC properties, often with media in tow. “People know, I am the king of helping people at Toronto Community Housing.” A healthy fear of the guillotine prevents most elected officials from referring to themselves in this way. Meanwhile, Toronto’s social-housing repair backlog stands at about $860 million.
Thanks Steve. This was the most horrible no-good very-bad thing Ford said all night and I’m amazed none of the other candidates had the $860-million-and-rising backlog figure at their fingertips. Unless Ford has figured out how to patch ceiling holes with fridge magnets.
So that’s where that “billion” dollars went ;)
Indeed Rob Ford loves the photo-op of touring TCHC properties and saying how bad things are. 1) So why does he vote ALWAYS against measures to help people get out of TCHC? 2) Does NOTHING beyond the photo-op of helping these people. 3) As Mayor, accept responsibility, for the situation . . . after all he is Mayor and the buck does stop at his desk!
He is the pied piper to the poor and struggling. He hates them more than anyone, but because they are often undereducated they don’t read a lot to get the real picture, they watch TV media clips, clips by the same useful idiot media that just loves to accommodate Ford Inc. on his photo-op scams without question.
Rob Ford is the King of deception.
There needs to be a grass roots movement to get home made flyers out to TCHC residents explaining the truth.
Indeed – the people who can least afford to be fooled are being fooled very badly by Rob Ford.
No, not King, Robbie. Just a Slum Lord. Tenants should start petitions to have him banned from out buildings.
Most TCH tenants are not stupid, they’re desperate. I have some neighbors that are Ford fans. They may not have the education or the savvy to see beyond Rob’s uptalk and argue his claims, but when you ask any one of them “Would you want him for a son-/brother-in-law, they snap to. When you point out that they’re unlikely to buy a $500K condo anytime soon, then you can debunk the saving taxpayers’ money BS about the Land Transfer Tax. When you point out that the $60/yr “saving” on the VRT (that they never paid cuz they don’t own a car) was replaced by the increased transit fares they do pay, you can get at least a head scratch. Then ask them how much they paid in property taxes last year. Deconstruct the crap for them and let them reconsider what they’ve bought into.
Then ask them how many forms they’ve filled out, how many surveys they’ve responded to, and what good did that do? Then point out that one of the first things Rob’s best friend Gene Jones did was eliminate the tenant rep system and the ability of their councillor to get answers to your problems from TCHC. And if they’re still talking to you, then you can get into the finer points about revenue tools and democracy.
His arrogance knows no boundaries… what an ass.
or bought by brother Doug for a mere $20 a pop…. sad and pathetic.
Doesn’t enjoy encounters with anybody smarter than he is, doesn’t he? You go, Olivia!
“Doug is the smartest guy I know” – Rob Ford. And that’s just about all you need to know about both Fords!
