Rob Ford plans to unleash Ford Nation on Kitchener-Waterloo
Rob Ford is now looking outside Toronto’s borders to continue the eternal fight for subways. Ford, an avowed supporter of Ontario’s Progressive Conservatives, told radio listeners Sunday that he’d to use the powers of Ford Nation in the provincial by-election in Kitchener-Waterloo. “I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure a certain party does not win,” he said. “We cannot let the Liberals run this province like they are.” See, if Dalton McGuinty and his Liberal party win the seat, they’d clinch a majority government at Queen’s Park and the support for LRT construction would continue. If anyone but the Liberals win the seat, there would still be a chance for the Liberal minority to be toppled, setting the stage for PC leader and Ford buddy Tim Hudak to re-open the notion of subway-building. Sounds like a lot of ifs to play out before Torontonians are riding underground along the length of Sheppard, but Ford is nothing if not obsessed with subways, subways, subways. [Metro News]

Ooh. Smack down. Fall down. Go boom.
The duties and powers of the Mayor include:
* calling special meetings of Council
* expelling any person for improper conduct at a meeting
* acting as a commissioner for taking affidavits (as may any member of Council)
* appointing guards with the powers of peace officers for public works and municipal buildings
* declaring that an emergency exists in the municipality, implementing an emergency plan and declaring when an emergency has ended
* signing all bylaws, together with the City Clerk, passed at meetings at which the Mayor has presided
I don’t see anything about using power to influence voters 107km away in provincial partisan by-elections.
He barely has any pull in his own city, and he’s going to influence an election at the provincial level 100km away?
When I saw the headline, I had a chuckle. I can picture Ford Nation being put in the passenger seat of a smart car to drive to Kitchener.
I’m sure the Liberals and NDP are looking forward to Ford Nation showing up in K-W – should make things much easier on them by taking the Tories out of the equation. No doubt the folks in K-W would love nothing more than having the loudmouth mayor of Toronto sticking his nose in their by-election – imagine the arrogance on that guy for even saying something like that.
Ford clearly doesn’t realize that he’s considered a joke pretty much everywhere except in the deluded minds of Ford Nation. The very fact of this guy being our Mayor is cause enough to make us a laughingstock. Only the Toronto Sun and 1010 Talk continue to perpetuate the myth that this guy has any credibility remaining. – everyone else rightly sees him for the clown that he is.
The fact that Hudak still hasn’t apparently figured this out is yet another reason why he would be unfit to be Premier.
OMG. WTF. GTFOH. Are these two fat dudes for real?! Grow up and keep weighing in on mondays and stick to Toronto! You want to go over 100 km away to ruin KW area?! STFU!!
Ironic that Ford should bring the anti-LRT shill to K-W, a city that has, with relatively few loud-mouthed exceptions, eagerly await the technology and understand it as a progressive city-building tool.
I don’t believe that cat will swing.
As a person eligible to vote in this by-election, I want to be outraged but I can’t stop laughing. Oh, and Mr. Ford of Ford Nation? Don’t listen to what your mom says. I’m definitely laughing *at* you, not *with* you.
