RIM slashes PlayBook price by $300 for consumers, offers even better deals for its employees

Christmas came early for BlackBerry fans. Research in Motion is in the midst of a holiday fire sale, cutting PlayBook prices by $300 across the board (for a limited time, the tablet starts at $200 for the 16GB version). But now RIM employees are getting an even better deal: 99 bucks for 16GB, $150 for 32GB and $200 for 64GB. As much as we (along with every other publication) have criticized the PlayBook, the tablet is now hard to keep on the shelves. Best Buy sold out on Monday, and more shortages could easily follow (though this is hardly unique; the same happened earlier this year with HP’s TouchPad). If this keeps up, RIM’s employees will have the only tablets left—and if they’re smart, possibly even a little Christmas bonus, courtesy of eBay. Read the entire story [The Verge] »
