I think they’re tired of hanging out in the park.
That was Councillor Doug Ford telling CP24 why today’s eviction notice really isn’t so bad. According to Ford, apparently the Occupy Toronto protesters have wanted to go home for a while now, but thought it would look bad to bail on their comrades. Hearing their silent pleas, the city has given them all an excuse to go home to their jobs (assuming they have homes and jobs). We thank you on their behalf, Doug—because we’re sure you know exactly how the folks down at St. James Park feel.
It is important that we teach these bums a lesson. If we let people hang out in public spaces and promote unconventional ideas, we wealthy conservatives could stand to lose some political and economic clout if citizens come to believe that governments are supposed to help average citizens and not prop up important businesses and industries. Better to round them up, rough them up, and try to squish any hope and idealism that may remain with court dates, restraining orders, fines and medical bills.
Once this occupation is quashed, I hope we can continue with the war on cyclists. Jenna Morrison was the first of many this year. The driver got a pat on the back, is that a coincidence? LOL.
“LOL” does not make completely distasteful comments more palatable.
No, but it does signpost irony for those bereft of wit.
