QUOTED: Canada Post CEO says cancelling home delivery will get seniors exercising

“The seniors are telling me, ‘I want to be healthy. I want to be active in my life.’ They want to be living fuller lives.”
-Canada Post CEO Deepak Chopra, telling the House of Commons’ transport committee all about the possible health benefits of making old people walk to communal boxes to pick up their mail. Canada Post announced last week that it plans to end home delivery for all Canadians over the course of the next five years. The move is one of several cost-saving measures planned by the crown corporation as part of an effort to bring its expenses in line with plummeting demand.
I challenge Deepak Chopra to show us these letters and emails from seniors who are contacting him about wanting to become healthier. What, are they applying for seasonal jobs as letter carriers? Because why else would they contact the CEO of Canada Post to discuss their health concerns?
On the contrary. The slips and falls our seniors will endure will put them in hospital beds. Did they consider the hit on the health system when they factored in all the potential ‘savings’ of canceling door to door delivery by healthy able bodied letter carriers?
This is nothing but yet another theft of taxpayer dollars ($500 million dollars in your paid taxes!) and and yet another renege of the services those tax dollars have already paid for. Lies, lies and more lies is all these scum bags know how to deliver. Meanwhile, they’ll push to charge taxpayers exorbitant prices for package deliveries they’ve already paid for and milk even more free money off the backs of hard working Canadians. Without shame, without sense, without integrity… that’s all these blatant thieves are “good” for.
I slipped this morning. I am a senior who needs a walker to navigate due to injury. Please don’t let the mail service be taken away. I will picket using my walker and my retired neighnbour will too. Where is the demonstration in Toronto?
Excellent point!
