Under new executive director, Pride is fiscally responsible (also, fabulous)

Will Rob Ford attend any Pride events in 2012? The mayor might have been a party pooper and missed out on last year’s festivities, but the latest news might give Ford reason for a change of heart. The organization recently named Kevin Beaulieu as its new executive director, following a turbulent year that included the controversy surrounding Queers Against Israeli Apartheid, Ford’s stubborn (and ill-advised) refusal to attend Pride events and Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti’s foray into filmmaking—and the Globe and Mail reports that Pride’s financials are looking absolutely fab. The group netted a surplus in 2011, and erased its $110,000 debt three years earlier than expected. If that doesn’t excite Ford enough to attend a Pride event or two, perhaps nothing will.
