In a move that was both expected and a long time coming, Ontario Housing Minister Kathleen Wynne has announced that the province will require construction companies to install heat-resistant glass (like the kind used for car windshields) for balconies built after July 1. Wynne noted that the regulation is temporary, meant to prevent further glass showers of doom mishaps until a nationwide standard is developed. It’s certainly a move in the right direction, though there’s no further word on what is to be done about the balconies already made of less-than-robust glass. [The Globe and Mail]
