The CBC’s Jamie Strashin is reporting that The City has been cancelled by NewsTalk 1010. The Sunday afternoon show—which features city councillor Doug Ford and mayor Rob Ford discussing the news of the day and taking calls from their own hagiographers—has become a point of contention in Toronto, with many citizens wondering why a person of such political prominence in the city was given a broadcast soapbox from BellMedia, a private company.

“NewsTalk 1010, Mayor Ford and Councillor Ford have mutually determined to conclude broadcasts of The City, ending with last week’s show,” says an extremely brief statement on NewsTalk’s website. “Of course, Mayor Ford and Councillor Ford remain welcome at any time as guests on NewsTalk 1010.”
