“I’ve lived in this neighbourhood on and off for 40 years. I keep coming back for Wychwood Park—a heavenly patch of country in the core of the city. I’ll start my day with a walk in the park with my poodle, Champion, and then meet up with neighbours for coffee at Leah’s (621 St. Clair Ave. W., 416-785-4711). I’ll get a cappuccino. The owner, Leah Kalish, is known for her Kitchen Sink cookies made with M&Ms, pretzels and potato chips. Then I’ll stop by the farmers’ market at Wychwood Barns for groceries. Back in the ’80s, I helped spearhead its creation from derelict streetcar garages. For lunch, my favourite place is Pizza e Pazzi (672 St. Clair Ave. W., 647-748-7882). They make amazing Neapolitan pizza. I love the arugula, parmesan and prosciutto pie. Then I’ll visit my favourite flower shop, Fiori Floral (633 St. Clair Ave. W., 416-658-0715). Lidia Tacconelli, the owner, is the city’s floral grande dame—she’s been doing arrangements for the Rosedale and Forest Hill crowds for decades. She does all my personal events. I’ll pick up some cherry blossoms, forsythia or pussy willows. Finally, I’ll treat myself to barbecue chicken from Churrasco (679 St. Clair Ave. W., 416-658-0652), a Portuguese restaurant that’s been in the area forever. I’ll take everything home and have dinner with my friends.”
