Giorgio Mammoliti says it’s about time Toronto became its own province
City councillor and perpetual distraction from real issues Giorgio Mammoliti thinks the City of Toronto should consider separating from the province of Ontario. Mammoliti told the Toronto Sun that Hogtown would wield more power over things like childcare funding and infrastructure if it were an independent province. Mammoliti’s not the first one to toss out this idea either. Mayor Mel Lastman considered secession in 1999, but acknowledged in 2000 that it wasn’t possible. Ah the syphilitic ramblings of the Toronto electorate’s many mistakes…
Perhaps what isn’t too far fetched is having a veritable Toronto interest-based political party at the Federal and (at the very least) Provincial level.
It is impossible, constitutionally speaking. Municipalities, like Toronto, a creature of the province, and thus cannot join Canada as a province unless everyone else agreed to it, which they won’t.
