When Justin Bieber lopped off his magnificently bobbed mane, we worried he’d pull a Samson and lose his mighty power over 12-year-old girls (and creepy adults). But it seems our fears were unfounded—that chopped-off hair fetched an impressive $40,668 on eBay just minutes ago.

Trading had been hovering around the low $10,000s until a bout of furious last-minute trades. Proceeds from the sale are going to The Gentle Barn, a farm where children commune with rescued animals.

Meanwhile, the Biebs turned 17 yesterday. Apparently, the celebrations were held a few days earlier with fellow tween sensation Selena Gomez at a $6,000 a night hotel in California. Sounds to us like Stratford’s boy wonder is doing just fine without his once-signature mop.
