The Toronto Island Ferry Terminal is set to be renamed the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal, which we think is a fitting tribute to the late NDP leader and prominent Torontonian—not only were Layton and Olivia Chow married on the island, but a third of his ashes scattered there last August. There’s also something about the humble civic ferry carrying city dwellers off for bucolic afternoons (most of the time) that exemplifies the bohemian Toronto Layton championed. The renaming has already been approved by Chow, and Layton’s son, Councillor Mike Layton, and city council will vote on it next week.
