“Leading edgeness,” despite being a ridiculous buzzword (one that appears to mean “people like it”), is the defining factor in a recent Ipsos Reid poll that, apparently, reveals what Canada’s top brands are. Apple topped the list, which won’t surprise anyone who’s ever looked at a cellphone (yes, we know Android phones are very popular too), and a pair of GTA companies even made the cut—Galen Weston Jr.’s President’s Choice ranked seventh, Tim Hortons eighth. Missing from the list, however, was BlackBerry maker Research in Motion. Of course, this shouldn’t be a shocker, since the tech world hasn’t supported BlackBerry’s new OS, a global network blackout last year proved RIM’s services weren’t even close to 100 per cent reliable and those drunk executives that grounded an Air Canada flight didn’t do much to revive the company’s already ailing image.
