“I Am Canadian” actor joins CBC’s As It Happens

He doesn’t live in an igloo, he says “about,” not “aboot,” and now the face of Molson famous “I Am Canadian” ads will be coming at you every weekday, as actor Jeff Douglas joins Carol Off as the new co-host of CBC radio’s As It Happens.

Douglas is widely known as the irate but polite man ranting Canadian truisms in Molson’s popular beer ads. As such, he might seem like an odd choice to host the popular CBC radio program, but  Douglas’s experience runs a little deeper than being the quintessential beer-selling Canuck. He’s hosted several documentary and lifestyle television shows for History Television and National Geographic, and has occasionally guest hosted As It Happens in the past.

Still, he certainly doesn’t possess the journalistic background the CBC earlier professed it was looking for in a replacement for former host Barbara Budd. At least we know he’s Canadian. We’ll have to wait until Douglas starts his new hosting duties on January 4 to see if he’s got the chops to survey the Canadian landscape on a daily basis, live, on air, and next to the inimitable Carol Off.
