Giorgio Mammoliti smells another commie in the city’s midst

Giorgio Mammoliti is defending himself against calls for an audit of his campaign finances by painting his accuser as a radical left-winger—a move we like to call the Don Cherry defence. According to the Globe and Mail, Mammoliti is accusing retired Toronto teacher David DePoe, the man behind the request for a compliance audit, of participating in “radical student movements” and “joining the Communist Party.” Naturally, we assumed Mammoliti sniffed out DePoe’s political past—but the Globe says he cited an online reference to a book from the ’60s. More importantly, we can’t help but notice that Mammoliti is attacking his accuser based on his alleged commie character, not the content of his claims. Read the entire story [Globe and Mail] »
