The 2009 and 2012 versions of Giorgio Mammoliti offer drastically different visions of transit

Given the recent uproar over Toronto transit, with council’s right arguing vehemently against any proposal that didn’t involve privileging subways above all else, imagine our surprise upon reading a June 2009 letter from Giorgio Mammoliti that championed light rail for Finch Avenue (according to Mammoliti, LRT would “provide several improvements for Emery Village”). Of course, Mammoliti has changed his tune since then—he’s now arguing the exact opposite. Council’s most entertaining mouthpiece is many things, but consistent clearly isn’t one of them. (h/t Reddit)
What a joke
Why do we even listen to or care what this douchebag says or think ?! He just make Toronto look bad… christ!
Times change. In 2009 we didn’t know about how bad the St. Clair West streetcar right-of-way would be. Now it’s as bad as Spadina Avenue – no pedestrians plus a never-ending traffic jam. Everyone is moving up to Eglinton in anticipation of the new subway or the more expensive underground LRT. Hobos are stealing building material for scrap, as all of the buildings along St. Clair West are abandoned and at risk of collapse.
What alternate universe are you on “True Tory”? Spadina and St. Clair have both experienced increased ridership and business for their stores.
True Tory—–> you are so full of it. Your agrument makes no sense but its all typical toronto where we talk garbage cause most people have never travelled to other world class cities. Try Amsterdam: the trams rule! the only change toronto needs to make is stop putting the tram stops after a stop light so they stop twice and you will see the difference. We cant afford Subways and the private sector aint coming running like buffo Ford predicted. Embrace the changes and be positive.
“Spadina and St. Clair have both experienced increased ridership and business for their stores.”
No, actually the buildings have all collapsed from lack of maintenance after all the stores closed down, and the streetcars are constantly filled with junkies and gangsters taking advantage of the two-hour time-based on-and-off transfer. I heard it on 1010.
TO Life: Please stop giving free publicity to this loathsome, wretched, incompetent, self-interested creature. He would say, do, sign, endorse, condemn, vote for/against ANYTHING if it means exposure, favour or some other return for him. He is an embarrassment to this city and an affront to municipal democracy in general.
BTW: True Tory is obviously satirist Joe Tory with an amended screen name. Or a delusional clown.
@TrueTory If you heard it on 1010, it must be true. Of course only junkies and gangsters ride transit – – – and moms with babies, and students, and seniors, and people on their way to work, and visitors to the city, and anybody else who pays a fare.
Arguing whether St. Clair is a success or not has nothing to do with an LRT. If you have trouble with a Camero, do you tell people not to buy a Passat. ST. CLAIR IS NOT AN LRT.
You guys know that True Tory is joking right? He plays the extreme right wing guy on here?
LOL – I live along St. Clair Avenue West and let me tell you there is no way that Forest Hill will end up a ghost town anytime soon – Where else can we build $10 million dollar homes in this city and still be able to get to Yonge and Bloor in under 10 minutes???
And as far as all this moaning about our amazing St. Clair Street car – come for a ride. It’s like what you might see in a city like San Fran or Montreal — you get a transfer and hope on an hope off for two hours, visiting new stores and taking in the area. I’ve shopped at stores I would never have known existed had I been on a subway underground and probably wouldn’t visit if I had to pay to get back on the street car.
Those of us who actually live in the area love it. To those who don’t live in the area but keep whining about it; Get over it. We like it and if you don’t, don’t ride it.
PS… am I the only one who thinks True Tory is actually Giorgio Mammoliti?! Come on now, I know you’re thinking it too ;) hehehe
I am not a troll. I am a real person, with real conservative opinions. If they are too extreme for you, perhaps you should realize they are the same opinions as many of the people running the city/province/country.
